1. Information We Collect
We only collect information that is necessary to run the platform:
- Account information — full name, phone number, town, preferred language and password (stored as a secure hash).
- Profile content — avatar, bio, preferences and categories you choose to follow.
- Content you publish — announcements, articles, events, business listings, comments, reviews and uploaded images.
- Business data — for verified organisations: business name, address, operating hours, catalog, delivery zones and payment method details you configure.
- Device & usage data — anonymised information about your device, browser, referrer and how you interact with the Service.
2. How We Use Information
- To operate and improve the Service.
- To deliver announcements, notifications and updates relevant to your town.
- To protect against fraud, abuse and misuse of the platform.
- To respond to support requests and moderation appeals.
- To publish anonymised, aggregated statistics about community activity.
We do not sell your personal information.
3. Cookies & Technical Data
MyTownBoard uses a small number of essential cookies and local storage entries to keep you signed in, remember your town, cache content for offline use and measure basic performance. You can clear this data at any time from your browser or from Settings → Cache.
4. Third-Party Services
We rely on trusted providers for hosting, authentication, push notifications, voice input, translation and payments. These providers process only what is required to deliver their function and are bound by their own privacy commitments. We do not share your data with third parties for advertising.
5. Voluntary Data Submission
Participation on MyTownBoard is entirely voluntary. During this testing phase, you should not upload sensitive personal information, including:
- Government Identification Numbers
- National ID numbers
- Passport information
- Medical records
- Mobile Money PINs
- Bank PINs
- Passwords
- Confidential financial credentials
Please only submit information that is necessary to use the platform.
6. Account Security
Passwords are hashed with industry-standard algorithms. Every table in the app is protected by row-level security so users only see what they are allowed to see. Connections are encrypted end-to-end over HTTPS/TLS. You can revoke your active sessions at any time from Settings.
7. Data Retention
We keep account and content data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we permanently remove your personal information, subject to legal and regulatory retention requirements (for example, records of financial transactions).
8. No Guarantee of Data Persistence
Although reasonable technical safeguards are implemented, uninterrupted service and permanent storage of user content cannot be guaranteed during this beta phase. You remain responsible for maintaining your own backups of important information and uploaded content.
9. Your Rights
You may at any time:
- Access and download your data by contacting support.
- Update or correct your profile from Settings.
- Delete your account and associated personal data.
- Object to specific uses of your data or withdraw consent.
- Lodge a complaint with Ghana's Data Protection Commission.
10. Compliance & Growth Statement
MyTownBoard is committed to processing user information according to the principles of:
- Transparency
- Fairness
- Accountability
- Purpose Limitation
- Data Minimization
- Responsible Security
As the platform grows, our privacy practices, legal documentation and security infrastructure may evolve to comply with applicable laws, including the Data Protection Act, 2012 (Act 843) of Ghana, and future regulatory requirements.
